iPod Model Variations and Technical SpecsDifferences Between the iPod Shuffle, Nano, Classic and TouchWith four principle iPod models on offer it can be difficult knowing which one to choose. Here is a simple guide to what's on offer when contemplating purchasing an iPod
There are four basic iPod model types, all of which have different features. The best place to begin is to look for the song storage space and offset that with the how much money the consumer wants to spend. It's important not to waste money on features that aren't needed. iPod ShuffleThe iPod shuffle is the smallest and cheapest of the iPod range. Upload songs onto it and that’s it. It’s available in 1GB ($49/£32) and 2GB ($69/£45) versions which provide space for 250 and 500 songs respectively. iPod Shuffle does not have play list editing facilities (hence the name) so if the user requires those features then the next step up is the iPod Nano. iPod NanoThe latest edition of the iPod Nano features a colour screen and video playback. It comes in a 4GB ($149/£99) and 8 GB ($199/£129)version which provides space for 1000 songs and 2000 songs respectively. The 8GB version can hold up to 8 hours of video. The new versions of the iPod Nano will also let the user play games and access features like the calendar and world clock. The best way of describing it is a miniaturised iPod Classic. The main difference between an iPod Nano and an iPod classic is the amount of song/film storage space and screen dimensions. This is down to the ipod Nano’s convenient size. But if size isn’t important to you, then the iPod Classic is a better choice as it provides much more storage space for the money iPod ClassicThe standard iPod and quite simply a modern classic. The latest versions can store up to 200 hours of video and 40,000 songs depending on the size of memory. Available in 80GB ($249/£159) and 160 GB ($349/£229). Includes a very useful search function which enables the user to find that one song they’re looking for. Which isn’t easy if you’ve got 40,000 stored. The iPod would serve any first time buyer very well. iPod TouchThe iPod Touch is the top of the range iPod model and it has a comprehensive number of features. The first time buyer will have nothing to worry about if they opt for this machine. It's expensive but it does everything and more. It features an easy to use touch screen operation system. It also has email, an internet browser, maps and it's WiFi connection compatible so the user can download music via a wireless connection and ipod Touch incorporates widget functions. Widget functions are handy applications that help the user. They might include a stock index or a weather report. Comes in 8GB ($299/£199), 16GB ($399/£269) and 32GB ($499/£329).
